  • How do I link my accounts to my debit card?
    You can do this by signing in to BMO Online Banking and:
    1. Click My Profile and Preferences in the top navigation menu.
    2. Click Link My Accounts in the left hand navigation menu.
    3. Select the Account Type.
    4. Click Verify Account.
    5. Review your information to make sure it’s correct.
    6. Click Submit Request.

    You’ll see a message confirming your request has been submitted. Once complete, you’ll get a confirmation in your My Messages - Your Requests folder.
  • How do I set up a recurring transfer between my accounts?
    1. Sign in to BMO Online Banking.
    2. Click Payments & Transfers in the top navigation menu.
    3. Click Set Up a Recurring Transfer in the left hand navigation menu.
    4. Select the accounts you want to transfer the money From and To.
    5. Enter the amount you’d like to transfer.
    6. Select the frequency you’d like the transfer to occur (e.g. monthly).
    7. Enter a Start Date and an End Date.
    8. Click Verify Recurring Transfer and confirm the details are correct.
    9. Click Submit Request. You’ll see a confirmation message to let you know the automatic transfer has been set up.
    Please note, you can only set up recurring transfers between Canadian dollar accounts.
  • How do I edit or delete a recurring transfer?
    To edit or delete an ongoing (aka recurring) payment, sign in to BMO Online Banking or BMO Mobile Banking, go to your Payments & Transfers tab and look at your Transfer History. Select the Scheduled tab to edit or delete a transfer instruction.
  • How do I make a transfer between my Canadian dollar and U.S. dollar bank accounts?
    To transfer between your Canadian dollar & U.S. dollar bank accounts sign in to BMO Online Banking and:
    1. Click Payments & Transfers.
    2. Select Make a Transfer.
    3. Select the accounts you want to transfer money From and To, and enter the amount and currency you’d like to transfer.
    4. The exchange rate and converted dollar amount for the transfer will be displayed.
    5. Review the transaction details, and if all looks good, click Verify Transfer.
    6. Click Complete Transfer. Your accounts will be updated immediately.
    7. Keep in mind that once your transfer is complete, you won’t be able to reverse this transaction at the same exchange rate.
  • How do I transfer money to my BMO Harris Bank account in the United States?
    To transfer money, sign in to BMO Online Banking and:
    1. Click Payments & Transfers.
    2. Select Make a Transfer.
    3. Select the From and To accounts, the amount you’d like to transfer, and the reason for the transfer.
    4. If this is your first time transferring money to your BMO Harris account through Online Banking, select Add Your BMO Harris Account from the To dropdown. In the Account field, enter your account number with BMO Harris Bank and complete the other required fields.

    It can take up to two business days for the funds to be credited to your BMO Harris account. Once the transfer is submitted, you won’t be able to reverse or cancel the transfer online.

  • How do I make a U.S. dollar transfer to or from my Canadian dollar BMO credit card or line of credit?
    Start by signing in to BMO Online Banking and:
    1. Click Payments & Transfers.
    2. Select Make a Transfer.
    3. Choose the From and To accounts, and enter the amount, and currency you’d like to transfer. You can review the current exchange rate by selecting View Currency Calculator.
    4. Review the transaction details, and then click Verify Transfer.
    5. Click Complete Transfer. Your request has been submitted for processing and will be completed within 24 hours.

    Keep in mind that while your funds will be available immediately, your transfer transaction and current balance can take up to three business days to update and display. You can find the transaction details, including the exchange rate, in your View Account Details section.
