Travel Insurance FAQs
Many travellers assume provincial health coverage is enough, but it may only cover a portion of medical costs outside your home province or territory. Travel insurance can help cover eligible emergency medical expenses, trip cancellations, interruptions, baggage issues, and more, depending on your plan.
Coverage varies by plan, but travel insurance may help protect you against emergency medical expenses, hospital visits, trip cancellation or interruption, travel delays, baggage issues and emergency transportation home. Review the plan comparison and Certificate of Insurance (certificate) for full coverage details.
It is generally a good idea to buy travel insurance soon after booking your trip. Some coverages such as trip cancellation benefits, can begin as soon as you purchase your certificate.
For coverage to apply, all medical conditions must meet the certificate’s definition of “stable” as outlined in the terms and conditions. This includes any disease, illness, injury or symptoms of a condition that has not yet been diagnosed. Be sure to review the terms and conditions carefully before purchasing.
All-in and Cancellation & Interruption plans can reimburse eligible pre-paid, non-refundable trip costs if you need to cancel or interrupt your trip due to a covered event. Coverage limits and covered reasons vary by plan.
