Certificate of Deposit (CDs)
Like guaranteed growth, locked-in interest rates and complete protection against the variability of the markets? BMO CDs are for you if you want competitive CD rates and flexible term options in exchange for storing your money longer.
What is a certificate of deposit?
A certificate of deposit – also known as a CD – is a type of savings account that pays a fixed interest rate on money held for a specific amount of time. In exchange for committing to keep your funds untouched during this period, you earn a reliable yield. So, even if the market is unpredictable, your yield stays the same until your CD’s term is up at maturity.

Certificate of Deposit (CD) FAQs
At BMO, there is no monthly maintenance fee on a CD. There are only fees if you withdraw money before the CD’s maturity. Get all the information in the CD Deposit Account Disclosure.
The minimum opening deposit will vary by the type and term of the CD.
Our current CD rates are shown on our CD main page.
If you close your CD prior to maturity, you will pay an early withdrawal penalty as detailed in the Deposit Account Disclosure. With all CDs, you cannot change the term of your CD until it matures unless you close the CD and pay the early withdrawal penalty.
You’ll be mailed a notice before the CD matures, and you can also find your CD account details in BMO Digital Banking. You’ll have ten calendar days from the maturity date to withdraw funds without paying an early withdrawal penalty.
