In addition to having a magnetic stripe (for swipe transactions) and an embedded chip (for insert transactions), contactless cards also have a radio frequency (RFID) antenna that communicates with the contactless enabled checkout terminal (for tap transactions). The terminal uses near-field communication (NFC) technology to communicate with the contactless card. When you’re ready to checkout, look for the contactless symbol on the terminal and simply tap your contactless card on the terminal. Your card has to be within 4 centimeters of the terminal for transaction to process.
Contactless payments are easy with a simple Tap & Go® functionality. They’re faster than swipe or insert transactions. And they have the same security and encryption as a chip transaction.
