Frequently asked questions

  • No. As long as you have an accurate mobile number on file, you're eligible to receive alerts about suspicious activity on your account. To check your mobile number on file, log into BMO Digital Banking or call us at the number on the back of your card.

  • You can edit your alerts or delivery preferences in the same way you can set them up. Just log in to BMO Digital Banking, select your credit card, go to Manage Card, and then select “Credit card alerts.”

  • Absolutely. We’ll never send your account number, password or any other personal information in an alert message, and we’ll never ask you to send us personal information by text message or email. If you receive an alert asking for personal information that appears to be from BMO, don’t respond and instead call us immediately at the customer service number listed on the back of your card.

  • It’s free! There’s no charge from BMO to use Credit Card Alerts, but be sure to check with your mobile carrier to see if text message and data rates apply.

  • First, be sure to confirm your Alert preferences by signing into BMO Digital Banking. Select your name in the top right hand corner of any page in BMO Digital Banking or More menu from your mobile phone. From there choose Preferences from the drop down menu and select Notifications and alerts. Select Credit card alerts to validate your alert settings and Delivery settings to confirm your delivery preferences.

If you’re still not getting your Alerts, we recommend the following:

    • Confirm that all your contact method information is accurate.
    • Ensure that you have not turned off Alerts.
    • If contact method is SMS/Text ensure that you did not reply STOP to any SMS/Text messages, as this prompt will opt-out your mobile device from receiving additional SMS/Text alert notifications for this account. Fraud alerts are separate from transaction, balance, and payment alerts and will continue to be sent unless you reply “STOP” to 76146.
    • If the contact method is via Email, depending on your own personal email settings, these email Alert messages may be placed in your spam/junk folder. Please verify that these messages are not located in the spam/junk folder.

If you continue to experience issues, please contact Customer Service by calling the phone number listed on the back of your credit card.

  • Any cardholder with access to BMO Digital Banking can set up alerts. A Primary account holder or Co-borrower can enroll in BMO Digital banking and both can set up alerts.

  • You can set your alerts to be delivered via email, SMS/Text or both when you set up your alerts or any time after under Delivery settings.

  • Depending on the Alerts that you have registered, it is possible for one transaction to trigger multiple Alerts. If this occurs, you will receive a separate Alert message for each Alert that was triggered.

  • Changes to Contact Information:

    • Changes made to email and phone contact methods will take effect immediately. If your phone number is set up for SMS/Text we will trigger a notification to your registered mobile device confirming the change. You must reply to the confirmation notification on your mobile device in order to complete the contact method update.

    Changes to Alert Settings:

    • Any changes to an Alert type will take effect immediately.
