Which BMO® credit and debit cards are eligible for Apple Pay?
Personal Credit Cards:
All BMO credit cards except BMO Prepaid Travel MasterCard, Small Business and Diners Club cards are eligible.
Personal Debit Cards:
All BMO Debit Cards including BMO Nesbitt Burns Debit Card and BMO InvestorLine Debit Card and BMO Private Banking Debit Cards are eligible.
How do I add my BMO credit or debit card to Apple Pay?
It's easy. Go into Settings on your eligible Apple‡‡ device, open the Apple Wallet & Apple Pay, and select Add Credit or Debit Card. On your iPhone‡‡, you can open the Wallet app, then swipe down and tap the plus sign. From there, use the iPhone camera to capture the information on your card, or type in the card number. If you already have a credit card registered to your iTunes‡‡ account, you can add it to Wallet by simply entering the card's security code (the three-digit number on the back of the card). If you have more than one Apple device that you are using with Apple Pay, you will need to add your BMO credit or debit card to each device.
You can also sign into the BMO Mobile App and add your BMO Credit or Debit card. Simply choose Apple Pay from the drop down menu and select the card(s) you would like to add. Don’t have the app? Download today
Do all merchants accept Apple Pay?
Many merchants do. For a list of some of the participating merchants, please visit apple.com/ca/apple-pay
What is the Device Account Number?
Once your card is loaded into Apple Wallet, it will be assigned a Device Account Number. This is the number provided to the merchant when you make a purchase. This number differs from the card number printed on your physical card.
What if my device is lost or stolen?
If your device is lost or stolen, please call us at 1-866-446-3190 and we can disable your BMO credit card or debit card from the Wallet.

If I erase my information from my Apple device, does that cancel my physical cards or can I continue to use them?
Erasing the information from your Apple device has no impact on your physical BMO credit or debit card(s) and will only remove your cards from Apple Pay. Simply follow the process described above to re-add your cards.
Why am I being asked to call BMO to validate my card?
This is just an extra security step. Simply call the number provided. You can also provide us your email address and we’ll send you a one-time Verification Code, or sign into BMO Online Banking to verify your card and follow the steps on your screen.
Do I get the same protection on transactions I make with Apple Pay as I do with my physical BMO credit card or BMO Debit Card?
MasterCard Zero Liability protects you in the event of unauthorized use of your BMO credit card account – including Apple Pay.
Use of your BMO Debit Card is protected by our 100% Electronic Banking Guarantee. You will not be liable for any losses from the unauthorized use of your BMO Debit Card. For complete details refer to the Electronic Banking Services Agreement.
If I have more than one BMO credit card, how do I distinguish them?
You’ll be able to recognize the card by confirming the last four digits of your card in Apple Pay, which also appear on the front of your physical card. You may also identify your card by its colour (No annual fee BMO MasterCard cards are blue, BMO World MasterCard cards are gold, BMO World Elite MasterCard cards are black.
How do I set my BMO card as the default card for Apple Pay?
The first card you add to the Wallet will be considered your default card. To change your default card, go to Settings, select Wallet & Apple Pay and tap Default Card and select your BMO card.
I have been asked to input a one-time verification code. What do I do?
For security purposes, we may ask you to enter a one-time verification code to confirm your identity. This code is a unique series of numbers and/or letters and will be sent to the email address that we have on file or that you provided to us. This verification code is valid for 10 minutes. If it expires, you can request a new one on your Apple device.
Please note: Verification codes for Authorized Users of a BMO credit card account will be sent to the Primary Cardholder’s email address.
Will I still receive rewards associated with my card when making a purchase with Apple Pay?
If you earn AIR MILES Reward Miles for your BMO Debit Card purchases, you will continue to earn Miles when you use Apple Pay.
I have the Interac Flash®‡ logo on my digital card, does that mean my physical card is also Interac Flash enabled?
No, your physical card does not have Interac Flash enabled.
Can I still use my BMO Mobile PayPass®* Tag?
If you have a Mobile PayPass Tag attached to your iPhone‡‡, it may interfere with Apple Pay. Please remove it before you start using Apple Pay.
Is there a limit when I use my BMO Debit Card for Apple Pay transactions?
Yes, transaction limits may apply when using your debit card. If you are unsure of how much you will be spending, it is a good idea to carry your BMO Debit Card as back-up.
