Unclaimed Property Notice for BMOII Customers
The provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, New Brunswick and Quebec have each enacted unclaimed property legislation, the purpose of which is to ensure that all reasonable efforts are made to return unclaimed property to its rightful owner.
Unclaimed property refers to securities and/or money held in accounts, or uncashed cheques, without recent activity (generally within the last three years), where the current or last known address of the owner is in one of Alberta, British Columbia, New Brunswick or Quebec.
For residents of British Columbia, BMO Investments Inc. (“BMOIIB M O I I”) maintains an unclaimed property database.
If you believe that BMOIIB M O I I may be holding unclaimed property that belongs to you or an estate for which you are the administrator, please visit your local BMO branch by reviewing our branch locator on bmo.com or by contacting us at 1-800-665-77001 8 0 0 6 6 5 7 7 0 0. For British Columbia residents, a request may be made to search the BMOIIB M O I I unclaimed property database on your behalf.
To process a claim the following information may be requested:

- Proof of current address.
- Supporting account documents to demonstrate entitlement to a balance such as a monthly account statement or will.
- A description of the account’s operation including, but not limited to, the date the account was opened, the type of account, the approximate value of the account and trading activity, all of which may be reviewed against the account’s history.
- You may also be required to submit a claim to the Bank of Canada if a portion of your unclaimed property was remitted by us to the Bank of Canada in response to the Bank of Canada prescribed requirements.
- Additional information may be required.
Please note: We retain client records in compliance with our internal records retention policy. If your claim relates to securities and/or money that has been unclaimed for a period of time that exceeds our internal records retention policy, it may be difficult for us to verify your details and/or process your claim.
