Please note: A minimum amount of $50,000 in eligible assets is required to open an account with adviceDirect. Your initial balance can be a deposit, transfer, or a combination and may consist of cash and/or securities investments.


Investment Club Account

Investment Club Account

 

1. Complete the Non-Personal Account Application Form and have it signed by a director or individual with signing authority. Please also provide verified personal identification.

 

By signing the Account Application Form, clients are agreeing to all account terms and conditions outlined in the Client Agreements Booklet. All clients must read and agree to the terms and conditions of this document.

2. Will you be applying for a Margin account?


3. Please provide original, notarized or certified true copy of the following:

 

  • A full copy of the Investment Club Agreement, or
  • Bylaws that establishes the existence and structure of the club

4. Will there be a second individual with trading or signing authority on the account?

 

 

Complete the Additional Authorized Trading Officer Form (99 KB - PDF) and provide verified personal identification.

 

Note: There is a maximum of two (2) Trading Officers permitted.


5. Complete the Investment Club Account Agreement Form and have it signed by all trading officers and club members.

6. Each member must provide one of the following*:

 

 

*Note: In order to comply with United States Internal Revenue Service Qualified Intermediary (IRS QI) requirements, each individual club member must provide one of the above.


7. All individuals who beneficially own greater than 10% interest in the account must complete the Beneficial Ownership Information Form and provide verified personal identification.

Partnership Account

Partnership Account

 

1. Complete the Non-Personal Account Application Form and have it signed by a Partner. Please also provide verified personal identification.

2. Will you be applying for a Margin account?


3. Please provide original, notarized or certified true copy of the following:

 

  • Copy of the Partnership Agreement, and
  • Provincial Business License/Registration

4. Will there be a second individual with trading or signing authority on the account?

 

 

Complete the Additional Authorized Trading Officer Form (99 KB - PDF) and provide verified personal identification.

 

Note: There is a maximum of two (2) Trading Officers permitted.


5. Complete the Partnership Resolution Form and have it signed by all trading officers and partners.

7. Complete an original W8IMY Form in the name of the Partnership.

8. Each partner must provide one of the following*:

Formal Trust Account

Formal Trust Account

2. Will you be applying for a Margin account?


3. Submit a notarized or original copy of the full legal trust agreement.


4. Is there more than one Trustee appointed within the Trust Agreement?

5. All Trustees named in the trust agreement must be set up on the account as Trading Officers. Each additional Trustee/Trading Officer must complete the Additional Authorized Trading Officer Form and verified personal identification must be supplied.

6. Complete the Multiple Trustee Form and have it signed by all Trustees.

7. The following should complete the Beneficial Ownership Information Form:

 

  • the Settlor (creator) of the Trust and
  • all beneficiaries; if the beneficiary owns greater than 10% interest in the trust they must also provide verified personal identification

8. Complete the Trust Account Declaration Form. The following terms may assist you determine what type of trust account you are opening: Simple, Grantor or Complex.

9. The following is required only if the trust is deemed to be Simple or Grantor, and is not needed if the trust is Complex:

 

  • Joint Account Election & Withholding Statement Form (47 KB - PDF)
  • Original W8IMY Form (84 KB - PDF) complete in the name of the Trust
  • One of the following is required from the Settlor (creator) and each Beneficiary to comply with United States Internal Revenue Service Qualified Intermediary (IRS QI) requirements:
    1. Copy of Canadian government issued photo ID
    2. Or in lieu of photo ID, a W-8BEN Form (91 KB - PDF) or W-8BEN-E Form (319 KB - PDF) may be completed by each partner (note - this form expires every 3 years and must be renewed, only originals.accepted).

Testamentary Trust Account

1. Complete the Non-Personal Account Application Form and have it signed by a Trustee or Executor. Please also provide verified personal identification.

2. Will you be applying for a Margin account?


3. Submit a notarized or original copy of the Probated Will establishing the legal Trust.


4. Is there more than one Trustee appointed within the Will/Trust Agreement?

Estate Account

Estate Account

 

1. Complete the Non-Personal Account Application Form and have it signed by an Executor. Please also provide verified personal identification.

2. Will you be applying for a Margin account?


3. Submit a notarized or original copy of the Probated Will or Letters Probate (applicable for all provinces except Quebec*).


4. Is there more than one Executor appointed within the Will?

2. Will you be applying for a Margin account?


3. Please provide an original, notarized or certified true copy of one of the following:

 

  • Articles of Incorporation
  • Articles of Amendment or
  • Articles of Amalgamation

 

Notes:

 

If the articles do not list the current Directors/Signing Officers of the company, please submit additional documentation listing the names and addresses of all directors.

 

Examples include: internal resolution, registrar of directors, minutes from the board of directors meeting, copy of the latest Annual Return Proof of Filing Record, or a Corporate Profile from the Federal or Provincial registry.


4. Please provide a letter of determination from Canada Revenue Agency confirming registered charity status and registration number. Must be an original, notarized or certified true copy.


5. Will there be a second individual with trading or signing authority on the account?

6. All Trading Officers must complete and sign the Corporate Resolution Form.

7. A listing of full names and occupations of all directors of the corporation/organization is required. Please provide this information on the Listing of Directors Form.

Not For Profit Organization Account

(Church, Society or an Association other than an incorporated registered charity/foundation)

 

1. Complete the Non-Personal Account Application Form and have it signed by a director or individual with signing authority. Please also provide verified personal identification.

2. Will you be applying for a Margin account?


3. Please provide original, notarized or certified true copy of one of the following:

 

  • Organizations/ Articles of Association,
  • Church/Association/Society Agreement and/or
  • Bylaws

 

The document must name the signing authorities authorized to perform financial and securities transactions on behalf of the organization.


4. Will there be a second individual with trading or signing authority on the account?

5. All Trading Officers must complete and sign the Corporate Resolution Form.

  2. We will begin processing your application within 2 business days of receipt in our office. BMO InvestorLine may contact you if additional information is required to process your application. If your completed application and all additional documentation and identification has been approved, your new account will be set up in 3 business days.
  3. Once your account has been set up, you will receive a welcome handbook in the mail confirming your account number and important information to get you started!
