With Voice ID – our voice recognition technology – you can confirm your identity simply by speaking with our customer service team, so you can get to your banking faster.


So how does it work?

When you call us as you normally would, we’ll create a voiceprint, a digital representation of your voice that’s made up of over 100 different identifying characteristics. This voiceprint is even more unique than a fingerprint, so you can be assured it’s secure and can’t be imitated.

Then, the next time you call us, Voice ID matches your voice to your voiceprint to make sure it’s you.

You don’t need to do anything extra to get set up and there is no extra cost for this service. We’ll do all the work to create your voiceprint when you call us!


Voice ID FAQs

  • Do I have to use Voice ID?
    Using Voice ID is optional, but we highly recommend it because it’s faster and more secure than other methods of verification. It allows BMO associates to help you right away, without having to ask security questions. If you prefer to enter your password or answer authentication questions each time you call, you can continue to do so.
  • Will my voiceprint work if I have a cold?
    Yes, your voiceprint should still work. Everyone’s voice has over 100 unique characteristics, only a few of which are affected by a cold. If your voice is severely affected, like with laryngitis, Voice ID may not work. If this happens, we’ll use your authentication questions to verify your identity.
  • What if my voice changes over time?
    If your voice changes and it can no longer be matched to the voiceprint on file, we can create a new voiceprint. We’d just need to ask you some authentication questions to make sure we’re talking to the real you.
  • What happens if my voiceprint doesn’t work?
    Voiceprints are very reliable but if there’s ever a problem we can verify you the way we do today, with authentication questions. We can also assess whether we need to delete the voiceprint on file and create a new one so you’re not inconvenienced again in the future.
  • Could someone mimic my voice and access my account?

    There are more than 100 unique characteristics being measured when we compare your voice to your voiceprint. Physical voice characteristics such as the size and shape of your larynx or nasal cavity can’t be easily mimicked and this prevents impersonators from tricking the system.

    If someone did get access to your accounts, rest assured that you won’t be held responsible for any losses that were incurred through no fault of your own.

  • How do I delete my voiceprint?
    If you no longer want to use Voice ID, we’ll delete your voiceprint at your request.
