Given to more than 1,000 nonprofits and charities across our footprint. 

Includes cash donations, valuation of volunteer time and program management. All amounts are stated in Canadian dollars unless otherwise noted.

$39 million in employee contributions

Includes $11 million to United Way during our annual campaign.

Our giving priorities

BMO’s employee and community giving aims to support programs and initiatives in the following areas.

  • BMO grows economies: Through our philanthropic programs, we advance the financial education, well-being, and economic mobility of our clients and communities.
  • BMO grows sustainably: Growing sustainably means working hand-in-hand with universities, research centres, and nonprofits to pioneer solutions that protect the environment and drive the transition to a more sustainable future.
  • BMO grows strong communities: Act as a catalyst for progress through capital investment, sponsorships and donations, as well as financial literacy and educational programming. Our culture inspires our colleagues to get involved, give back and volunteer their time to make an impact.

How to request a donation or event sponsorship

BMO accepts funding applications from registered charities and non-profits that align with our giving priorities and meet our eligibility criteria. 

Grant applications are accepted online during the following periods in 2026: 

  • February 1 – March 31 
  • August 1 – September 30 

Please note, the volume of funding requests we receive through our grant cycle has increased significantly. We anticipate that this grant cycle will be competitive. Please review our criteria and areas of funding before submitting your request to ensure it is aligned with our requirements. We know that funding applications can take time to complete. Thank you.
