Richard Couzens
Managing Director, Head of BMO EMEA
Richard Couzens leads BMO’s business & operations across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), setting regional strategy and overseeing governance, regulatory engagement, and client relationships. He works closely with Global Markets and Investment & Corporate Banking (I&CB) to deliver integrated solutions to BMO’s corporate, institutional, and government clients. Richard is also Chief Executive Officer at BMO Capital Markets Limited (UK) and is based in London.
With more than 25 years of experience in global financial markets, Richard brings deep expertise in capital markets and risk management. Prior to his current role, he was Head of Global Markets EMEA, driving growth, operational efficiency and innovation across origination, trading, sales, research, and structuring groups across asset classes.
Before joining BMO in 2015, Richard held senior leadership positions at Barclays, where he led global sales and structuring teams, working in both New York and London. He also held roles in the Equities division at Bear Stearns.
Richard holds a BA in Business Management from the University of Lancashire and professional certifications including CISI Securities & Derivatives and FINRA Series 17, 63 & 24 licenses.
