Jacob Sorensen

U.S. Chief Technology and Operations Officer

Jacob Sorensen is the U.S. Chief Technology and Operations Officer for BMO Financial Group. He oversees the strategic and operational governance processes for the bank’s U.S. T&O organization - including those related to Technology, Operations, Cyber Security, Fraud, Physical Security, Resiliency, Data and AI. The role provides integrated leadership across all areas of T&O and represents T&O at the U.S. Management Committees, U.S. Boards, and acts as a conduit for enterprise alignment for T&O. Jacob is a member of BMO’s U.S. Management Committee, reporting to the U.S. CEO, and the Enterprise T&O Executive Committee, reporting to the Enterprise Head of T&O. 

 

Before joining BMO, Jacob was Chief Information Officer (CIO) for Bank of the West, where he was responsible for the bank's technology organization and IT platform, including Infrastructure & Operations, Solutions Delivery, Data Management, Technology Strategy, Architecture, and Technology Vendor Management. Prior to his time at Bank of the West, Jacob held various senior leadership positions at J.P. Morgan Chase, Washington Mutual, Providian Financial, and NextCard. 

 

Jacob has been recognized by his peers in the San Francisco/Bay Area CIO Leadership Association as the 2020 CIO of the Year ORBIE Awards winner in the Large Enterprise category due to his exceptional leadership, management effectiveness, and business value created through technology innovation. He was also selected as a finalist for the 2021 National CIO of the Year ORBIE Awards by the InspireCIO Leadership Network. 

 

A volunteer and advocate for mentoring and career development, Jacob has been actively involved with and currently serves on the Board of Advisors for Genesys Works SF/Bay Area Chapter as well as serving on the Board and Founding Member of First Tee of Oakland. Jacob also sits on the Executive Council of the Executive Advisory Board for Arizona State University's Department of Information Systems, part of the W.P. Carey School of Business. 

 

Jacob received his BA in Economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara, graduating with Highest Honors.
