Honoring those who serve means taking action that lasts. At BMO, our commitment to military communities in Canada and the United States is built on long-term partnerships and programs that make a measurable difference for military members, veterans, and their families. From housing and mental health to education and career transition, we’re helping create stronger futures.

Our impact in the United States

  • Career Transition & Mentorship: BMO partners with American Corporate Partners (ACP) to support U.S. military veterans and spouses transitioning to civilian careers through one-on-one professional mentoring. BMO employees volunteer as mentors, creating meaningful connections that help veterans and military spouses navigate new career paths.
  • Hiring Our Heroes: BMO collaborates with Hiring Our Heroes to identify veteran candidates for internships and full-time roles, building pipelines for meaningful employment opportunities across the bank.
  • Supporting Service Members & Families: Through the United Service Organizations (USO) Midwest, BMO empowers the USO to fulfill its mission of supporting the well-being of U.S. service members and their families throughout their military journey. The USO operates centers at or near military installations across the United States and worldwide, including in combat zones, providing critical resources and connection.
  • Housing & Supportive Services: In Milwaukee, BMO supports the Center for Veterans Issues, Inc., which provides housing and supportive services to help improve the quality of life for veterans, their families, and the communities they serve.
  • Honoring Forgotten Heroes: BMO funding supports the Lauren F. Bruner USS Arizona Memorial Foundation in honoring the “Forgotten Heroes” of the Navajo Nation, including the Navajo Code Talkers of World War II. This initiative includes a veteran stand-down in the Navajo Nation, delivering healthcare, assistance, and essential services to veterans in this underserved community.

Expanding mental health support: A new partnership with Wounded Warriors Canada

We’re proud to announce a three-year, $450,000 partnership with Wounded Warriors Canada to expand access to trauma support for families of Veterans and First Responders. This funding will enhance the Spousal Resiliency Program (SRP), offering both in-person sessions and a new nationally accessible digital format that removes geographical and financial barriers to care.

The SRP is clinically developed to help spouses and partners regulate emotions, strengthen social connections, and restore hope within relationships impacted by operational stress injuries. Digitizing the program will allow families across Canada to access culturally informed, life-changing support no matter where they live.

Our impact in Canada

  • Ending Veteran Homelessness: Through a 10-year, $1.5 million commitment to the Homes for Heroes National Veterans’ Villages program, BMO is helping provide tiny homes and wraparound services for unhoused veterans.
  • Investing in Education for Military Families: Through Support Our Troops, BMO funds scholarships for Canadian Armed Forces dependents, reducing financial stress and enabling students to pursue careers in nursing, education, trades, and more.
  • Honoring Military History & Values: With Canada Company, BMO supports the Honouring Bravery program, bringing authentic stories of Canadian military heroes into classrooms through free curriculum-connected resources.
  • Cultural & Historical Education: In Newfoundland and Labrador, BMO funds EduKits through The Rooms, giving thousands of students hands-on learning about Canada’s history and identity.

Building stronger futures

Supporting those who serve is an honor. By investing in housing, education, mental health, and cultural programs, BMO is helping military families thrive and ensuring veterans have the resources they need to build a strong future.

Together, we’re creating lasting impact, because honouring service means action every day.
