Applying for insurance is an important step toward helping to protect what matters most and BMO Insurance is here to make that process as simple and reassuring as possible. One of the key steps in your application is the insurability tele‑interview – a convenient phone conversation designed to gather the essential details we need to assess your coverage. With a friendly, guided approach and a focus on clarity and comfort, the tele‑interview helps ensure your application moves forward smoothly and confidently.

Who will be conducting the interview?

BMO Insurance has partnered with Dynacare, a leading provider of insurance information services in Canada, to carry out telephone interviews. Soon after your insurance application is submitted, you will receive a text message or phone call from a Dynacare representative to arrange your interview at a time that works best for you, or you may choose to complete your interview immediately if you prefer.

What is the tele‑interview and what can I expect during this call?

The tele-interview is a secure and efficient way to collect the information required for underwriting.

The representative will begin by asking you a few questions to verify your identity, then confirm the purpose of the interview and your consent. They will also inform you that the call is being recorded for quality assurance.

During the call, you will be asked questions about your lifestyle, your personal health history and your immediate family’s health history. At the end of your interview, the representative will ask you to confirm that all the answers you have provided are complete and accurate.

How long does a tele-interview usually last?

On average, tele-interviews take about 20 to 25 minutes, though the duration can vary depending on your medical background and how well prepared you are to answer the questions. Some interviews may be finished in as little as 10 minutes.

How to prepare for the call

Having the following information ready will help your interview go smoothly:Family doctor details (name, address, phone number).

Family medical history (parents and siblings), including any diagnosed conditions and age at diagnosis.

Lifestyle information (tobacco use, alcohol use, other substances).

Driving history (infraction dates and type of infractions).

Travel plans (outside of Canada and the United States in the next 12 months).

Participation in higher‑risk activities (e.g., scuba diving, race car driving, skydiving).

Other important information:

  • Height and weight
  • Date and reason for your last visit to a doctor
  • Names of medical conditions you have been diagnosed with, the date of your diagnosis, treatment, type of testing completed and date of testing
  • Medication names and dosages
  • Details regarding upcoming medical appointments
  • Please ensure you provide the correct name and spelling for any medical conditions or medications you disclose

If the application is for a child, plesae prepare the same information.

What happens after your interview?

Once your tele‑interview has been completed, BMO Insurance will use the information you’ve provided to evaluate your eligibility for insurance. If necessary, you may be contacted to schedule an appointment for additional medical tests or requirements.

How is your personal information handled?

The responses you provide during the tele-interview are treated with strict confidentiality and are used solely for processing your insurance application. The interview is recorded, and both the questions and your answers are transcribed and included as part of your life insurance application. If your application is approved, this information becomes part of your life insurance contract.
