Acquired by BMO Bank of Montreal on April 1, 2013 (formerly Aver Media) the group consists of an innovative team of highly skilled, creative professionals with a broad range of financial expertise coupled with an in-depth understanding of the media industries. Managing Director and Head
Robert Beattie is Managing Director & Head, BMO Media Finance. Robert joined BMO in 2004, holding senior roles in Diversified Industries and BMO Capital Partners, where he structured facilities for large commercial/corporate customers and US and Canadian private equity firms.
Prior to joining BMO, Robert was a senior executive at a leading Canadian media company where he founded and ran a high-yield debt fund. Prior to that, Robert spent 9 years at a large Canadian bank where he was the team-lead for their national initiative in entertainment finance. Robert holds an undergraduate degree in Economics from UBC, an MBA from the Schulich School of Business in Toronto, and is a CFA charter holder.
Clare has worked in the film and television industry for 20 years and has completed hundreds of financings in that time. Clare joined Aver Media Finance (now BMO Media Finance) in 2007 as a Senior Account Manager. Prior to Aver, Clare was a Senior Account Manager in the film and television division of another Canadian bank, working out of Toronto and managing the division’s office in Vancouver—her hometown. As a lender Clare has worked on film and television financings across Canada as well as internationally. Prior to banking, Clare worked in the Business Affairs division of Alliance Atlantis Communications with a focus on production. Clare has served as Co-Chair of the Toronto Chapter of Canadian Women in Communications and during her tenure organized a number of fundraising and networking events. Clare is also an active member of Women in Film and Television. Clare has an MBA from the Schulich School of Business and a BA in Film Studies from Queen’s University.
Jenna was with Aver Media Finance (now BMO Media Finance) since its inception in 2006, when she joined as Director, Media Lending. Jenna has successfully assisted a wide variety of clients with their production financing needs on projects including feature films, television series, documentaries and animation productions. Specifically, her role is to help producers with tax credit, pre-sale contract and “Gap” financing. Although currently based in Toronto, Jenna is primarily responsible for overseeing the financing of BMO’s UK television and film projects. Prior to joining Aver, Jenna worked as a lawyer with the Toronto law firm, Goodmans LLP.
Brent joined Aver Media Finance (now BMO Media Finance) in late 2011. He comes from the film and television industry where he worked as an independent producer for twelve years, predominantly with Toronto-based Sienna Films, and was involved in a wide variety of feature film and television productions. Brent’s background also includes stints in film distribution for Lionsgate Films as a sales manager and advertising as an account executive, with clients including major multinational financial services companies. He holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of King’s College and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Toronto.
Kelly joined BMO Media Finance in 2017. He has worked in various sectors of the media industry in progressively senior roles for over 15 years, predominantly focussing on business affairs. Most recently, Kelly served as Vice-President, Business Affairs & Production Financing at one of Canada’s largest media production companies where he was responsible for negotiating matters pertaining to media development and production across all genres and overseeing all aspects of production financing. In addition, Kelly has been heavily involved in structuring domestic and international productions/co-productions, strategic partnerships and has worked with production partners, licensees, government authorities and financiers. Kelly continues to be active with numerous industry groups and educational endeavours.
After having completed a Bachelor of Business Administration from Acadia University in 2003, Trevor moved to Calgary where he worked in the oil and gas sector in various analytical roles. He later moved to Vancouver, joining BMO in 2008 as a Commercial Account Manager, where he was highly successful at building a diverse portfolio with a focus on commercial accounts in the manufacturing sector, real estate and mergers and acquisitions. In 2013, Trevor was promoted to Vice President Commercial, responsible for leading the North Vancouver Island commercial team. Trevor joined BMO Media Finance in late 2015 and is responsible for building Media Finance’s portfolio of large corporate clients, where BMO may act as lead and participant bank on various syndicated facilities, both in Canada and the U.S.
