“Remember my Bank Card” allows Online Banking to remember your Bank Card number and optional nickname for the card. This means that you will not have to type in your Bank Card number every time you sign in.
No. This is an optional feature. If you do not wish to have your Bank Card number remembered, you can sign in to online banking by entering your Bank Card number and password as you normally would.
When you check the box for “Remember my Bank Card”, a cookie file is created on your computer’s hard drive at which time a random value, or key, is generated and placed in the cookie. This key is used by Online Banking to determine which card number is associated with the cookie. The key will change after every successful sign in. This process is specific to the PC you are using at that time. You will always be required to enter your password each time you sign in as there is no association with that information.
Yes. While a masked version of your Bank Card number is saved within your cookie for generating the dropdown list, your actual Card number is not stored in the cookie. Your password is never stored and there is no access to Online Banking without it.
Not having to enter your Bank Card number at sign in, will help you to avoid the risk of this information being captured by fraudulent keystroke tracking programs. If you were misdirected to a fake site (phishing) while using a PC on which you had previously had your Bank Card number remembered, you would be asked to enter your card number because the fake site would not know that you had set up this feature. Note: If you had previously deleted all your cookies including the ones associated with this feature, then this feature would have been effectively disabled.
Anyone with access to a computer which you use for Online Banking would also have access to any cookies that have been set by the “Remember My Bank Card” feature. These would contain a random key, the masked version of your Bank Card number and the associated nickname if any. The cookies could potentially be used to access your account information if an unauthorized user were able to guess or obtain your password.
If you opted to use the “Remember my Bank Card” feature when signing in for a previous Online Banking session, you will see a drop down list on your sign in page the next time you visit Online Banking. The card number(s) appearing in your drop down list will be masked, replacing the middle 8 digits with asterisks for your privacy. If you have assigned a nickname to a specific card it will identified as such.
You should not use this feature on publicly shared computers, such as Internet cafes, public libraries, airports, or any locations where you are not in control of who accesses the computer after you. You should not use this feature anywhere you would not normally do Online Banking.
If you wish to have a Bank Card number remembered, simply enter your Bank card as you normally would and then check the “Remember my Bank Card” box. You may assign a nickname at that time, however nicknames are not mandatory. Keep in mind that you can not opt to give your card a nickname after the set up is complete. Enter your password and select “Go” to proceed with your sign-in. The next time you sign-in to Online Banking, your masked Bank Card and nickname, if selected, will be displayed in a dropdown list.
The nickname is a way to personalize your remembered Bank Card number. This optional feature will make it easier to identify the right card if there is more than one used or when more than one person is accessing Online Banking on the same computer. A nickname can be between 2 and 6 alphanumeric characters in length. Special characters (eg, *, %, $, etc.) can not be used. You should not use your password or other key identifiers as nicknames.
Your masked Bank Card number and applicable nickname, if any, will appear in a dropdown list. If multiple Bank Cards have been remembered, the card last used will appear at the top. Select your card, enter your password and select the “GO” button.
To use a Bank Card number that has not been remembered, select the “Use a different Bank Card” text link appearing beneath the Bank Card field, enter the card number and password and select the “GO” button. You will have the option to have this new Bank Card number remembered, provided you have not exceeded the maximum of 5 remembered card numbers.
You can easily remove a remembered Bank Card number by making a selection from your dropdown list of remembered cards and selecting the ‘Remove card’ text link appearing underneath the ‘Bank Card’ field.
In order to change a nickname you must first remove your remembered Bank Card number using the ‘Remove card’ text link. You will then enter your card number, check the ‘Remember my Bank Card’ box and assign the new nickname.
If you get a new Bank Card, you should:
Yes. Up to 5 Bank Card numbers can be remembered. The last card used will appear first in your dropdown list.
Yes. But we recommend assigning a unique nickname to each card as it would be easier to distinguish between multiple masked card numbers appearing in your dropdown list.
