Our roots date back to before 1925 when Bank of Montreal first provided investment services to institutional clients. More than 85 years later, we are a global firm and among the Top 50 Asset Managers1 worldwide, offering institutional and retail clients a broad array of innovative investment solutions.

2015

Pension and Investments names BMO Global Asset Management one of the top 50 asset managers globally, based on assets under management.

BMO ETF business leads the Canadian ETF industry in new assets in 2014 for the fourth year in a row (calculations based on Bloomberg data).

2014

November

BMO Financial Group becomes the first Canadian financial institution to launch ETFs in Hong Kong through BMO Global Asset Management.

June

BMO Financial Group celebrates five years since its first four ETFs were listed on the TSX on June 4, 2009.

May

BMO Financial Group acquires F&C Asset Management plc. This acquisition enhances our investment platform capabilities and provides attractive opportunities to leverage ideas cross-border and bring more comprehensive solutions to our clients around the world.

BMO ETF business leads the Canadian ETF industry in new assets for the third year in a row, with over $5 billion in new assets in 2013 (calculations based on Bloomberg data).

BMO Asset Management Inc. ranks in the top 10 largest fixed income exchange traded product (ETP) providers worldwide by assets under management.

 

BMO Financial Group announces that its ETF business has surpassed $7 billion in assets under management and has grown by $1 billion in the last two months.

June

BMO Financial Group's ETF business marks its third anniversary by surpassing $6 billion in assets under management.

March

BMO ETFs surpass $5 billion in assets under management in under three years, and in the first two months of 2012 alone, grew by 32 per cent.

February

BMO Asset Management ranks number one in ETF customer loyalty in the Credo Research February 2012 Loyalty Ranking Survey of 33 financial services firms.

BMO ETFs reach $4 billion in assets under management.

December

BMO ETF business leads the Canadian ETF industry in growth in 2011, accounting for $2.3 billion or 49 per cent of the growth of assets under management (calculations based on Bloomberg data).

BMO ETFs reach $3 billion in assets under management in less than two and a half years after the business was launched. BMO Financial Group's ETF business has doubled in 2011 alone.

July

BMO acquires Marshall & Ilsley Corporation (M&I), adding an array of equity, fixed-income and cash management solutions.

April

BMO ETFs reach $2 billion in assets under management in fewer than two years.

January

BMO acquires Hong Kong-based Lloyd George Management and adds more than 20 years of experience in Asian and emerging markets to the firm's offerings.

 

2010

 

September

BMO Asset Management reaches $1 billion in assets under management only 15 months after entering the ETF market.

July

BMO Investments Inc. launches a new series of four risk-differentiated mutual fund portfolios that invest primarily in ETFs.

May

BMO Asset Management Inc. is formed in Canada to offer an integrated mix of investment solutions under a single brand name.

 

2009

 

BMO Financial Group launches its ETF business through BMO Asset Management Inc. (BMO AM), and is the first bank affiliate in Canada to offer its own line up of ETFs. BMO ETFs launches an initial suite of four funds.

 

2008

 

BMO is the first major bank to offer Registered Disability Savings Plans.

 

2007

 

BMO acquires London-based Pyrford International Ltd. and adds more than 25 years of specialized investment firm experience in international equities to its list of capabilities.

 

1999

 

BMO establishes Monegy, Inc. and adds global high-yield solutions to the fixed-income product offering.

 

1974

 

BMO launches the First Canadian Mortgage Fund. BMO Mutual Funds is born.

 

1925

 

Bank of Montreal begins offering investment services.
