Studying in Canada presents many opportunities for international students, with access to some of the best universities and qualifications that are recognized and respected the world over. BMO Bank of Montreal is Canada's oldest bank and together with the Canadian Embassy in Beijing is offering students from China the opportunity to attain a study permit with reduced financial document requirements.
Qualifying students in China, applying to study in Canada can choose to submit fewer documents in support of their study permit application. In place of most financial documents, qualifying applicants may submit proof of a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) from BMO Bank of Montreal*.

See the Reduced Financial Documents Kit on the Canadian Embassy website for details of the documents you need. The GIC Certificate removes the requirement to submit proof of assets or banking history. If you do not provide evidence that you have paid tuition for your first year of studies, you also need to provide a bank certificate showing that you have funds to pay tuition fees for your first year of studies.
With the Foreign Student GIC your first payment of $2,000 will be deposited into your account upon activation here in Canada. A further 5 payments of $1,600 will follow every 2 months.
If for any reason your study permit is not issued, BMO will refund your $10,000 GIC with applicable GIC interest.
